**This is a 46 hour course delivered across a weekend, a 1 hour tutorial and 5 consecutive Sundays** (please check for complete dates in section below)

*** Introduction to techniques***

A two day weekend workshop where the student will be introduced to 4 mosaic techniques:
- Direct, indirect, double indirect and working  directly into tile adhesive.
- You will learn how to cut and shape a variety of materials , including vitreous glass tile, matt ceramic tile, stone, marble  china and smalti, using tile nippers and the hammer and hardie.
- The use of ‘andamento’ to explore the expressive possibilities of the mosaic medium will also be taught during this  workshop weekend.

You will make a small sample in each technique . The focus of this initial 2 day workshop will be on the acquisition of basic mosaic skills and gaining knowledge of their appropriate use. Teaching will be a combination of group demonstration and individual tuition.

***One to one tutorial***

During the following week the student will have the opportunity to attend a one to one tutorial during which they will introduce the tutor to their artistic work practice and discuss the ways in which they might incorporate mosaic into their work.
A project will be planned with the tutor, to be completed during the remainder of the course.

***Realise your individual project***

5 one day sessions taking place over five consecutive weeks. During this part of the course the students will work on their individual projects.

Tuition will be mainly one to one to enable the student to fully explore the possibilities of the relationship between their own medium and mosaic. A group tutorial will take place on the last afternoon of the course in which the students will show and discuss their completed projects.


A course open to artists and makers working in any medium who would like to incorporate mosaic into their work practice.
